History

HVR was started in 1989 at the initiative of Scarab Development AB. Scarab owned a patent  from 1981 for membrane distillation and by 1987, Scarab had demonstrated a large-scale desalination unit in Greece.

Basic product development was completed in 1998 when a series of units were sold for evaluation. This prototype demonstrated that the technology could be integrated into a product. Further development was required to produce a product that could be mass produced at an acceptable price. A first product was completed in 2001 and then spun off to the subsidiary Purity AB (publ). Since then, development has focussed on  improving performance and bringing down the cost of production.

The latest prototype, Elixir, has been produced with mass production in mind. It meets all safety standards and demonstrates the best performance to date. Elixir also has a refined control technology that monitors and optimises the treatment process and energy use. The digital display gives the user complete control over the device.
