Membrane Distillation is a new process for treating liquids.

Non-volatile matter cannot penetrate the membrane and is discharged.
The result is absolute separation of all non-volatile matter. Since it works at ambient pressure and at temperatures below 100 °C, the equipment is reliable and durable.
HVR has developed a unique cassette-based application of membrane distillation to be integrated with household appliances such as types of water purifiers.
Heated water to be purified circulates in the middle of the cassette between the two membranes (A).
The other side of the membrane is a cold surface. As the heat in the water causes water to evaporate, the molecules travel through the membrane and condense as they hit the cold surface (B). The clean water flows down the surface into a collection vessel (C).
Non-volatile matter can not penetrate the membrane, it is simply washed away.
Until now, water treatment involved large quantities of chemicals, energy or both. Disposable filters and chemicals were involved and the results have not even been absolutely clean water. The levels of contaminants have been considered to be acceptable in the light of available technology.
HVR-technology offers a lower energy, sustainable alternatives, with no chemicals or filters to dispose of, and an ultra-clean result.
In addition, many existing products depend on the water being fairly clean from the beginning. HVR's technology produces pure drinking water even from heavily polluted sources.
Thus HVR products are characterized by
We have developed proprietary concepts for degassing of liquids. We use heat and expanded surfaces to drive off volatiles. Read more about degassing here.
With these two technologies combined, both volatile and non-volatile contaminants can be removed from the feedwater, and the result is absolutely pure water.
